The following buttons will allow you to run the setup program that will install Red Ink for your Microsoft Office application or will update your existing installation of Red Ink to the latest version. You will need to confirm that you want to execute the setup program, but you do not need to close your Office application. After the update, simply restart it. Any existing configuration file will not be overwritten. See below for more information.

If it does not work, then you probably are trying to install the wrong version (“Preview” over “GA” or vice versa). If this is not the reason, deinstall the add-in (using the Windows feature to deinstall software) and reinstall it.
To find out whether you have “Preview” installed, move the mouse over the Inky symbol and you will see it.
Browser Extension
You may also want to install the browser extension that is available for Edge, Chrome and other chromium based browsers (e.g., Firefox). The buttons will direct you to the extension stores of Microsoft and Google.
The browser extension relies on Red Ink for Outlook running. You also need Red Ink for Outlook running if you want to use the Red Ink Local Chatbot at http://localhost:12333/inky.
Red Ink Web add-in / Inky Mobile
In addition to the classic Red Ink add-in, you can now also test the Red Ink Web add-in, which also runs on macOS, in the “new” Outlook, in MS Office for Web, and in Powerpoint. It, however, cannot run standalone, but needs a back-end server (and the same configuration files as the classic Red Ink add-in).
With the same server you can also make available the LLMs you use for Red Ink to your users also via a chat app for their mobile phones and tablets (“Inky Mobile”). This needs a separate license.
The server runs on Windows and macOS (also locally, with some restrictions). You can download the two manifest files needed for installing the web add-in and server software (“redink-helper”) with the buttons on the right; instead of installing the manifest yourself, you can also obtain the add-ins through the Microsoft Marketplace (you will still need to download and install the server executable “redink-helper”).

Notes:
- If you start Red Ink for the first time and your computer has not been preconfigured for using a centralized configuration, you will be shown an installation assistant; you will need a valid API key to configure your copy (for API providers see here)
- Red Ink is installed for each Microsoft Office application separately; they are not dependent on each other
- The setup program is a ‘ClickOnce’ installer that requires no user input; it will download the necessary code
- The setup program will only run if called up from within the Edge browser
- If you want to switch from the General Audience version to the Preview version or vice-versa, you need to first uninstall the corresponding add-in (you can usually keep the configuration file)
- Uninstallation is done using the Windows “Add & Remove Programs” feature, like any other installed software; this is simple and straightforward
- Uninstalling Red Ink will not remove the configuration file (usually in %appdata%/Microsoft/Word [you can enter this into your file explorer])
